Racism, Intolerance and Misinformation: Conversations for Change
Hosted by the International Conflict Research Institute (INCORE) at Ulster University, this event brings together community voices, practitioners, and researchers for a reflective and forward-looking discussion on the challenges of racism, intolerance, and misinformation across our communities.
Taking place one year after a period of heightened community tensions in Ballymena, the event will consider what has been learned, and think about how we might have a more inclusive and informed public discourse.
The event will begin with a presentation from Professor Philip McDermott, sharing insights from the 2025 Northern Ireland Life and Times Survey, with a focus on public attitudes towards cultural diversity and immigration.
This will be followed by Dessie Doherty, who will discuss the work of the Committee on the Administration of Justice (CAJ) on the rise of the far right in Northern Ireland, including the role of social media and online discourse in amplifying racial intimidation and violence.
A panel discussion will then explore lived experiences, community responses, and the role of misinformation in shaping tensions and narratives.
