The John and Pat Hume Foundation and Royal Irish Academy are hosting a seminar on Monday 13 May 2024, from 10.30am to 3pm, in the Atlantic Technological University Letterkenny, Port Road, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, F92 FC93, to discuss the findings of the Royal Irish Academy published report entitled, “Finding common ground, building community: strengthening and stimulating tertiary regional collaboration in the north-west of the island of Ireland.

The RIA report examines current and potential future approaches to higher education policy and provision across the North-West region of the island of Ireland. The report is intended to be a contribution to this important wider debate, and it is hoped that it will stimulate further discussion and dialogue with the aim of benefiting the North-West region.

The Hume Foundation and RIA have held several events over the last 18 months on ‘The Future Development of Higher Education in the Greater North-West of the Island of Ireland’, and Time to Strengthen the Regional Impact of Greater North-West’. All the discussions have been positive and forward-looking, seeking to identify solutions to long-standing under-development of the greater North-West region in both jurisdictions.

Speakers include: Professor Gerry McKenna RIA, John Daly, Economist of the Regional Assemblies of Ireland and John Goddard, emeritus Professor of Regional Development Studies at Newcastle University UK, and representatives from tertiary institutions in Greater North West.
