The European Parliament Former Members Association visit Europe House, Dublin

On Friday the 23rd of October 2026, at Europe House in Dublin, our Board Member Mark Durkan joined a panel on “Nobel Prize Winner John Hume and His Legacy – The Good Friday Agreement”, hosted for a delegation of the European Parliament Former Members Association.

32 former MEPs from 12 EU countries and the UK heard Mark reflect on John’s work alongside former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and former Minister of State Liz O’Donnell, in a discussion moderated by Press Ombudsman Susan McKay.

John served in the European Parliament for 25 years and saw the European project as proof that former adversaries could build a shared future. It was fitting to explore his legacy with those who sat in that same Parliament, and with students from Trinity College Dublin. This event was a part of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026.

Thank you to the Former Members Association at the European Parliament (FMA) and the European Parliament in Ireland for the invitation.
